Description
It is an alternative to the famous traditional Inca Trail of 4 days as well as Lares trek, Inca Jungle and Huchuy Qosqo that also travel along the original Inca Trail.
Salkantay trek, today it is very famous and crowded by many tourists from different countries of the world, because it offers you much more spectacular views on various altitude floors: small and colorful lagoons, impressive Salkantay and Humantay glaciers, small rivers that are born from the same snowy Salkantay and subtropical areas of abundant flora and fauna.
Itinerario
Day 1: Cusco – Soraypampa
To start this great Salkantay trek adventure, we will pick you up from the hotel at 4:30 am.
Then we will travel in our mobility for 2 hours to the town of Mollepata where we will have our light breakfast, after breakfast we will continue with our trip to the community of Cruzpata where the cook, the muleteers and acémilas will be waiting for us to take our camping equipment.
We will walk 2 and a half hours to the community of Soraypampa, where we will spend the first night of the expedition and from this area it is already possible to appreciate the spectacular landscape of the Humantay and Salkantay snowy mountains.
After lunch we will make a small walk to the Humantay lagoon (1 hour and 30 minutes of ascent) that is on the Salkantay trek circuit and today is one of the very famous attractions in Cusco.
Day 2: Soraypamapa – Chaullay
At 6 am we will have our breakfast, then we will begin to walk up the hill until we reach the highest point of our expedition open Salkantay trek, just from where we will have the impressive views of the Vilcabamba mountain glaciers, also from here you can already appreciate the Amazonian high jungle full of flora and fauna of this ecological floor. From here we will start with the descent to Wayracpunku where we will have a small lunch break.
Then, Our trip will continue entering the high jungle, where we will observe the typical tropical forest vegetation full of different types of trees and finally we will arrive at our next Chaullay camp.
Day 3: Chaullay – Santa Teresa
After our succulent breakfast (6 am), we will start with our downhill walk to the high jungle. Here we will be lucky to see different types of wild vegetation such as orchids, begonias, bromolas, timber trees and also domestic plantations coffee, bananas, orange and more. This part of our walk is one of the best stretches.
After 5 hours of long walk we will arrive at the small town of Playa, where we will have a short rest (lunch), later we will continue with our walk towards the town of Santa Teresa place of our next night of camping. In this town we will have enough time to explore and be able to go to Cocalmayo’s thermo-medicinal waters, an excellent place to relax after an arduous walk and at night we will make a campfire with all the members of the expedition.
Day 4: Santa Teresa – Machu Picchu Pueblo (Aguas Calientes)
The sunrise will be within a tropical area full of history and nature, there our breakfast will be waiting for us ready to taste and then we will continue our journey towards Machu Picchu town.
To arrive at Machu Picchu town, it will take us an approximate time of 7 hours, traveling by rail, passing through the Hydroelectric Power Station, making stops in different places to appreciate the spectacular landscape and from our tour we can see at the top of the mountain to the Great Inca city of Machu Picchu.
We will spend the night in a hotel in Machu Picchu Pueblo
Day 5: Machu Picchu Pueblo (hot waters) – Machu Picchu – Cusco
We will get up at approximately 4:30 am and then we will start climbing to the Inca city of Machupicchu. It will take us approximately 1 hour 30 minutes, following an ascending path crossing the lush rainforest and we will have the opportunity to see the sunrise in the Inca city.
Our guided tour will last 2 hours, touring the most important points of this wonder. Then, we will have free time to explore more on our own or to climb the mountains Huaynapicchu, Machupicchu, Inti Punku or Inca bridge.
After all, we will begin to descend to the town of Aguas Calientes to go to the train station that will take us back to Ollantaytambo and there outside the train station our staff will be waiting to take you to the city of Cusco – hotel.
