Trek Ausangate 5D/4N

Description

Ausangate is one of the spiritual routes of magic-religious character because of the presence of the Vilcanota mountain range where we find the highest mountain in Cusco, the Apu Ausangate (6372 m.a.s.l.) which is the God that protects the Peruvian Andes.

During the tour llamas, alpacas and vicuñas will be present among the groups of humans. If you enjoy discovering new horizons using your feet this trek to Ausangate is perfect for you. Cusco, imperial land, offers a tour that promises an impressive 5 day trek through the VIlcanota mountain range on a route that is named “the Apu Ausangate trail”. Without a doubt the Ausangate trek will show you some of the most marvelous landscapes of Cusco.

Itinerary

Day 1: Cusco – Chillca

We begin our tour in a comfortable bus that will take us to the Vilcanota river where we will visit the church of Cehecacupe and the beautiful valley of Pitumarca.  We continue until we reach Japura where we walk a short distance to reach Chilca. In Chilca the villagers who will be housing us receive us by playing their Andean instruments and inviting us a cup of hot coca tea. The housing has hot showers and toilets and 8 double bed rooms. Here we will taste delicious and nutritious local food like alpaca meat; there are also vegetarian food and others for those who need a special diet.

Day 2: Chilca – Machuracay

After breakfast we begin walking alongside thousands of alpacas and llamas in the valley of the Phinaya glacier. Looking for other glaciers in Santa Catalina we climb the inspiring waterfalls of Pjachaj until reaching the place where we will have a delicious picnic lunch.

After lunch we walk for around 5 hours surrounded by moraines, glaciers and lagoons towards Machuracay Tambo where the hosting family will be waiting to welcome us. Worth to mention is that a heard of llamas will be carrying the luggage during the trek.

Day 3: Machucaray – Anantapata

We begin the day by undertaking the first port of the mountain with a spectacular panoramic view. We descend the glaciers walking towards the Ausangate Cocha Lake where we will have lunch. After lunch we will have an incredible experience where we will be surrounded by formations of red sandstone, here we will also be able to see vicuñas and with a bit of luck we can also spot condors. After this we arrive at our third campsite where we can relax and enjoy the rest of the day.

Day 4: Anantapata – Huampococha

After breakfast our adventure continues exploring another mountain port from where we will descend to the Kayrawiri Lake. During the descent we are surrounded by mountain peaks, a great valley and a spectacular view of the colors embedded in the mountains. We keep walking towards the “Great Laya Hill” passing through the great Inca glacier while appreciating the amazing colors of the silt of Yauricunca. We have lunch while contemplating the unique landscape before we walk towards our fourth camp. Along the path we can spot hundreds of Andean geese at the cliffs of Anta, we can also see the pyramidal forms of Apu Labrayani situated close to Huampococha Tambo where we will pass the night.

Day 5: Huampococha – Cusco

We continue our adventure ascending towards the last port where we’ll have a spectacular view of the mountains. From here we descend the entire trail while we find the most fantastic stone formations from the cretaceous era.
