Description
The short Inca Trail combines beautiful mountain landscapes and incredible panoramic views, cloud forests and a sub-tropical jungle with the magnificent work of the Incas like paved trails, agricultural terraces, water fountains, tunnels and archaeological sites like the famous Sun Gate and the sun set over Machu Picchu. This trek is ideal for the ones that have limited time and the ones that want an easier trek.
Itinerary
Day 1: Cusco – Km. 104 – Wiñayhuayna – Aguas Calientes
We pick you up at your hotel at 04:00 a.m. and head towards the village of Ollantaytambo in a car. We board our train that will take us to KM. 104 where our trek begins. After registering in the control we visit the archaeological site of Chachabamba (2100 m.a.s.l.) and then we trek for another 4 hours until reaching Wiñayhuayna (2600 m.a.s.l.) where we will have a bit of a rest while having our lunch (box lunch). We continue for 2 hours until reaching Inti Punku or the Sun Gate where we will get the first glimpse of the Waynapicchu Mountain and the Inca city, we continue 40 minutes more until reaching Machu Picchu where we take the traditional photo. Afterwards we board the bus that will take us to the village of Aguas Calientes where we will have dinner and sleep.
Day 2: Aguas Calientes – Machu Picchu – Aguas Calientes – Cusco
We begin our trek to Machu Picchu early in the morning, it will take us about 1.5 hours to reach Machupicchu and once there we will have a 2 hour guided tour where we visit the most important places like the temple of the sun, the house of the Inca and others. After the tour you will get some free time to take photos in the citadel before returning to Aguas Calientes to take the train to Ollantaytambo and then a car back to Cusco.
