Huchuy Qosqo 2D

Description

This magnificent and strategic archaeological site called Huchuy Qosco or “Small Cusco” became known in the Incan era with the name Caquia Xaquixahuana and according to the chroniclers it was habituated by the Inca Wiracocha until he died. From Huchuy Qosco there is a spectacular view over the Sacred Valley of the Incas and the mountains in the Urubamba mountain range. This beautiful and short circuit is situated very close to the city of Cusco and gives us the possibility to observe tourist attractions, Andean landscapes, flora and fauna.

Itinerary

Day 1: Cusco Huchuy – Quenqo – Siwa – Lamay – Ollantaytambo- Aguas Calientes

We pick you up from your hotel at 5:00 a.m. and drive for 20 minutes to the place where we will have breakfast with a view of the Sacred Valley. We begin our trek close to Siwa (3750 m). It will take us about two hours to get to the highest point, the Inca Yupanqui pass (4050m). During the trek we have excellent views of snow-capped peaks, cultivating fields and the possibility to see falcons in their natural habitat. From the pass it only takes 15 minutes to get to the canyon of Puma Punko (the gate of the Puma and after that it only takes us 90 minutes more to reach Huchuy Qosqo that once was the palace of the king Wiraccocha. We’ll get a guided visit and then a lunch at the site before we complete the trail reaching the village of Lamay where our transportation to Ollantaytambo is waiting for us. In Ollantaytambo we visit the city and have dinner before taking the train to Aguas Calientes.

Day 2: Machupicchu – Return to Cusco

After an early breakfast we take one of the first buses up to Machupicchu to enjoy the sunrise before we begin our guided tour. We have a 2 hour guided tour and then we can explore the citadel on our own, if you like to you can climb Huaynapicchu but have in mind that you have to reserve the ticket well in advance. We take the bus back to the village where we’ll have lunch before we take the train in the evening (2:55 p.m., 4:45 p.m. or 6:45 p.m.). We’ll transfer you from the train station to your hotel in Cusco.
