Itinerary

Day 1: Cusco

1.- The Cathedral of Cusco:  We begin our tour by visiting the Cathedral, the Sacred Family church and the church of Triumph.

2.- Qoricancha: Then we visit the temple of Qoricancha which is the máximum expression of Incan engineering. The Sun temple or Qoricancha is the convent of Santo Domingo.

3.- Sacsayhuaman: The impressive fortress of Sacsayhuaman is strategically built over a hill from where all of Cusco can be seen. It’s famous for its enormous carved stones, some of them as high as 9 meters or 30 feet and weighing more than 350 tons.

4.- Qenqo: Situated four kilometers north east of Cusco are the archaeological groups of  Qenqo. Qenqo means maze or zigzag and has a strictly religious function that is part of an amphitheatre with niches and a monolith that looks like a Puma and measures about six meters.   5.- Puka pukara: Puka pukara means “red fortress” because the stones used to build it have gotten the red color of the ground that is rich in iron. It is believed that it had the function to guard Tambomachay, an important Incan palace but at the same time its architectonic disposition and the fat that there are wells, aqueducts and enclosures indicates that it could have been a “tambo” it’s to say a hose that offered shelter and food to travelers.

6.- Tambomachay: Tambomachay is situated 8 kms north of Cusco, close to the ruins of Puka Pukara. It’s an archaeological site that was directed to the water cult and so that the boss of the Incan Empire could rest. This place was also known as the Incan Baths. It has a series of aqueducts, canals and waterfalls. The surprising thing is that of the principal waterfall the Incas created 2 secondary falls that are exactly equal, it’s to say that if you put two empty bottles, one in each of the falls, both fill up at the same time.
