Description
The archaeological site of Chinchero is known mainly for its context in history and heritage; however Chinchero is a village with pre-Inca, Inca, Colonial and Republic traces, it has always been a living village with architecture that shows the different historic periods.
Because of the many different resources that the archaeological park of Chinchero has its considered as one of the most important monuments of the Cusco region of the Incan era because of the existing architectonic contexts, ceremonial, vial and urban that gives us a variety of options to develop tourism.
Itinerary
Day 1: Cusco – Chichero
Our great adventure begins by picking you up at the hotel at 9:00 a.m. and then heading towards the district of Chinchero about 35 minutes from Cusco, from there we will take a trail to the community of Ocutuan – Umasbamba where our hosts are waiting for us. When we arrive the hosting family will give us a big welcome, they will show us their house including the room where we will sleep, after that we have the rest of the morning free to get to know our hosts. In the evening we have a delicious lunch made by produce from the community and after that we participate in the daily activities of the family like: herding animals, collecting firewood, working the soil etc. After a delicious dinner we sleep in the house of our new family.
Day 2: Cusco
After a delicious breakfast our hosting family shows us the entire community with its typical streets, the church and the people. We continue with our activities that include a beautiful demonstration of Andean textile made by our hosting family, they will show us their techniques that are an Incan heritage, we learn everything from cutting the wool from the sheep, dying, weaving to the final product. We also get the opportunity to buy handy-crafts made by our new family for our loved ones back home. After a delicious lunch we say good bye to our family and return to Cusco.
Optional visit: Before returning to Cusco we can visit the archaeological center of Chinchero; a beautiful Incan site with a colonial church. For this visit you need the tourist ticket (boleto turístico).
